DIY Sand Blasting Made Easy
Although it certainly is possible to hire the work out that needs to be done around the home, it is always enjoyable for those of us that consider ourselves weekend warriors to take care of the projects ourselves, and DIY Sand Blasting is no exception. There are a number of different options that are available which will help you to take care of this effectively, such as having the right equipment that is available to the homeowner, along with being able to service the equipment yourself, especially if you have a homemade sandblaster. It is also possible for you to do some wet sand blasting, but that is something that is generally left to the professional. Even so, it is possible to do wet DIY Sand Blasting at home as well.
The first thing that you're going to need to do is to gather the equipment necessary to take care of the job. For the most part, you're going to need an air compressor, the proper type of airgun with two connectors, a bucket full of sand or other material suitable for sandblasting and an area for you to do the job. If you do not have a compressor and airgun available which will take care of the sandblasting job, you can generally rent them from a hardware store on a daily or half daily basis.
The area in which you do the sandblasting is also going to need to be taken into consideration carefully. It is possible for you to construct your own DIY Sand Blasting cabinet, but this may not be the best option if you're only going to be doing one or two small jobs. Depending on the regulations that govern sandblasting in your area, it might be possible for you to just do this out in your backyard where making a bit of a mess will not matter. As far as the sandblasting booth is concerned, this is not generally going to be something that a do-it-yourselfer is going to need.
Wet sand blasting can also be done, simply by adding water to the sand or other material that you are using. It is also possible for you to split the hose that goes into the sand and put one end into a bucket of water. Generally speaking, you may need to adjust the amount of water that is going into the hose by clamping it at the end but you should be able to get somewhat of the effect that you are looking for. If you need to do a larger wet sand blasting job, you might want to consider hiring it out to a service in your local area, the same way you would have when you wanted to use Dupont automative paint to be sprayed on "old rusty".
DIY Sand Blasting is one of the more interesting things that we can try to tackle on our own. Although we will not be able to take care of larger scale jobs with a homemade sandblaster, by renting the equipment in your area, you can take care of almost any job that is necessary. Just make sure that you look at the possibility of using a professional service, as the mess and trouble that you go through in order to take care of this job on your own may just not be worth it.
